Pedro Hernandez has been painting since he could first hold a pencil, driven by an early and enduring commitment to visual expression. Born in Cuba, he pursued formal training at the Academy of Fine Art, where he completed four years of rigorous study rooted in traditional draftsmanship, composition, and classical technique. In 2006, Hernandez relocated to the United States, where he currently lives and works, continuing to refine a practice that bridges historical traditions with contemporary sensibility.

Throughout his artistic journey, Hernandez has explored a wide range of mediums, including pencil on paper and acrylic, ultimately choosing oil paint as his primary means of expression. He works almost exclusively with the Apelles palette yellow, red, white, and black embracing its limitations as a path to greater depth, harmony, and emotional intensity. His approach reflects a deep respect for the discipline and philosophy of the Old Masters, emphasizing form, light, atmosphere, and psychological presence over surface effects.

Pedro’s work is heavily influenced by artists such as Rembrandt, Titian, Caravaggio, El Greco, and Goya, as well as the contemporary Norwegian master Odd Nerdrum. These influences are evident in his focus on timeless narratives, human vulnerability, and a dramatic use of chiaroscuro. Rather than chasing trends, Hernandez seeks to create paintings that feel enduring and contemplative.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions within local art scenes across the United States, including Miami, and internationally at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain. Through his work, Pedro Hernandez continues to explore the human condition, striving to create paintings that resonate beyond their time and place.
